It is bursting with the magic of a traditional Christmas, a delight for adults and children alike, so be sure to take a look when you come and visit.

Christmas Day is fast approaching but there are still 9 shopping days left at the Hungerford Arcade. Our stallholders have lots of fabulous gifts for you to feast your eyes on and we can’t wait for you to pay us a visit.

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – ALICE IN WONDERLAND

Hungerford Arcade always has a special window for the Victorian Extravanganza, which we are delighted is back this year on 10th December.  Ann Parker (unit 42P) and her daughter Hannah Havers (unit 67), have worked very hard to produce this spectacular Alice in Wonderland themed display.

Under the watchful eye of Spencer, who made sure that everything was just so, they have produced an eye-catching display with all the Alice in Wonderland characters.  There are some wonderful vintage pieces for you to marvel at.

There’s even a Cheshire Cat, disappearing into the foliage until only his smile is left, drawn in Ann’s unmistakable inimitable style!!

….and the Mad Hatter has a certain someone sitting in his top hat!

It looks even better at night, when the lights come into their own.  Do come and join us, we are open until 9.00pm for you to browse and find those unexpected presents that you don’t realise will be perfect for someone until you see them!

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – It’s Beginning To Look Like Christmas!!

We were very pleased to meet Steve and Spencer who worked tirelessly all day putting up Christmas trees throughout our beautiful High Street. They certainly made the front of the Arcade look very festive!

We also saw the return of Shield Electrical Services Limited who were installing all of the magical Christmas lighting in preparation for our traditional Christmas light switch on.  Josh, Gary and Shawn.

All of us here at the Hungerford Arcade are beginning to feel Christmassy now that Ann Parker our unit 42P stallholder has done a wonderful job of dressing our window full of

Christmas cheer!

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – GETTING READY FOR CHRISTMAS

Here at the Arcade we have been busy preparing for Christmas, the Christmas trees outside on our facade went up last week and our stallholders have been stocking their units ready for the festive season. A walk around the arcade this morning has highlighted plenty to feast the eyes on.

Why don’t we start with pre-christmas drinks, Unit 8 has a stunning set of Art Deco Liqueur glasses complete with stand, we also spotted plenty of cut crystal decanters for your Christmas wine or spirit. Don’t worry if you are short on cutlery, La Couteliere (unit 10) specializes in it, from knives and forks to cake slices and mustard spoons, she will no doubt have it in stock.

For the coffee lovers out there we have plenty of china to choose from, unit 36 has a beautiful circa 1930s Royal Doulton coffee set, or if you have more individual tastes, how about a single Devon Sylvan Lustrine demitasse coffee can and saucer from unit 127. We can’t forget about making the home festive, unit 32s has Christmas

decorations/ornaments available, including a great retro talking Father Christmas.

We all want to treat our loved ones, there is a beautiful large Merrythought Pooh Bear waiting for a home in unit 44, and no Christmas is complete without a special piece of jewellery like the exquisite 18ct gold pendant set with a large Amethyst surrounded by Diamonds, available in unit 43.

We can’t enjoy the festive season without a Scrooge, unit 125 has the perfect Beswick Scrooge Toby Jug. No matter what your budget, we have something for everyone here at the Arcade, and to finish your shopping day make sure you pop up to Cosy Coffee Shop, mince pies are now available.

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – LOTS OF LOTS, AUCTION DAY

Hungerford Arcade is a hive of activity behind the scenes this afternoon as we complete the final preparations for Ian Spuffard’s charity auction this evening in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Town Council have very kindly prepared the hall for us and blowing up of balloons and hanging of banners is in full swing as we decorate!  Doors open at 6.30pm for viewing with the auction scheduled to start at 8.00pm

Ian has been checking that all the lots are numbered and has an army of support to move them all from the Arcade to the Town Hall.  There are 125 lots in all and you can view the catalogue online by clicking here.  He has everything (including a cot!) but the kitchen sink in the antiques and collectables line on offer.

Jane Elliman has kindly made a magnificent Christmas wreath.

They say an army marches on it stomach.  There will be drinks and party food available and the first drink is free to all who have a bidding number.  Cathy, Brenda and Ian (with the help of his neighbour Bertie) have cooked up a storm and Susan has been making retro cheese and pineapple on sticks!

We are particularly grateful to Laura, the Community Champion of Tescos Hungerford who has very generously donated tea, coffee, fruit juice and party food.

Do come along and join in the fun to support this worthy cause – we’d love to see you!

HUNGERFORD ARCADE – REMEMBRANCE DAY PARADE

It has been a very busy day here in Hungerford. The high street was filled with people taking part in today’s Remembrance parade. The town’s support as always, was out in force!

The parade was led today by Hungerford Town Band  together with Ex-Service personnel, HTC councillors and representatives from local organisations.

We also had 1st Hungerford Scout Group, Beavers and Brownies all lined up in front of the Arcade prior to the parade. Great to see our young stars taking part in such an important day.

The parade was followed up with an impressive march by the Soldiers of 6th Armoured Close Support Battalion REME straight past our front door.

Our window beautifully dressed by our very own Adrian Gilmour in memory of our fallen heroes!

Hungerford Arcade – Remembrance Display

We’ve had a recent visit from Ken Milton here at the

Hungerford Arcade. Ken is in the process of hand building a memorial to display at his home this remembrance day. Ken came to us so he could purchase some vintage army figures that he could add to his beautifully handmade exhibit.

Ken purchased a WW1 Black Watch piper and a dismounted

lifeguard from our dealers Gary and June Crook in unit 121. who collect and sell vintage Action Man figures from 1964 – 1986 and also specialise in toy soldiers, military die cast vehicles and other interesting vintage toys.

Thank you Ken for visiting us and finding some special additions to your wonderful display. We wish you all the best for the 11th of November and hope you raise plenty for your charity!

Don’t forget our vintage military vehicle display outside the Arcade this coming Sunday, 7th November.  Gary, June and all their military vehicle friends hold this event every year raising money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.  There will also be a Dad’s Army Platoon and more.  Do come along and support these wonderful men and women who bring these fabulous vehicles along, at their own expense, to raise money for this fantastic cause.
